Write at Home for Money - How to Get StartedThe growth of the internet has opened up a wealth of opportunities for people to earn money by writing from home. The breadth and diversity of available work is quite astonishing: form blogs to articles, from adverts to reviews, there is much to be written and much to be earned. Some people have, in fact, made writing from home their full time job - here we look at how best to go about it if you want to make it work.
You do not have to be a world class writer to earn money writing from home, just someone who can write grammatically correct and readable, informative articles and blog entries, and you also need to have the equipment to carry out the job efficiently.
The first step is to make sure you have the necessary facilities and, fortunately, modern computer equipment means this need not be expensive. If you are reading this you most likely have at hand a home computer and a broadband connection; fundamentally that is all you need. However, if you are going to devote time to writing from home it is recommended you have a dedicated space to work from. A home office can be set up in a spare room or in a space in a room that is not used - a desk and chair is all that is needed to make a workable office. Choose your own comfort levels, and make sure you achieve them as writing from home can involve long periods sitting in one place.
Next you need to find work! To start with, use a search engine and look for 'freelance writing jobs'; there are many forums and websites dedicated to discussing the subject and these are worth visiting, but the sites you are looking for are those that advertise jobs.
Each job will be an individual request - you may find people asking for articles to be written, for sales letters, eBooks or essays to be edited; decide on your niche to start with, and then follow the guidelines for bidding for jobs on the given site. You will be required to place a bid, and give a turnaround time - in the first instance, look for sites that offer special beginners jobs, for as your work is accepted it is rated by the buyer, and your rating increases as you complete more work.
Make sure you follow the guidelines and format that the client requests and, for good measure, learn a little about SEO - or search engine optimisation - for this makes up a good proportion of all requests.
All in all, working from home for money can be very lucrative, but remember the important rules when you start out: be honest with your bids, stick to deadlines and do not be afraid to ask questions - there is a world of work out there!
